Part One is a 100 hour transformative in depth training in philosophy, yogic scriptures, sanskrit, anatomy and physiology, technical alignments and teaching methods. This program is for earnest yoga students and yoga teachers certified in other traditions.

If you have been certified in other traditions, this program will greatly extend your knowledge of the yogic tradition.

Partys Two and Three of the Certification program is for those who know they want to teach and want to be certified. This program is a unique opportunity to receive a comprehensive training, apprenticeship and mentoring in Vinyasa Yoga. If accepted into the program you will work closely with one of the best yoga teacher trainers in the country. This 200 certification program is accreditted by the Yoga Alliance. In reality, most participants who have completed this program have upwards of 700 hours of "contact time" with Tom. This program greatly exceeds the minimums of the Yoga Alliance.

Who is the 100 hour program for?
  • Earnest yoga students who want a deep training and experience in yoga, who may or may not want to teach yoga at this time
  • Certified Yoga teachers who would like an indepth training in vinyasa yoga and a full appreciation of the history of Indian yoga, a study of the Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, the Dhammapada and other important scriptures in the Indian and Buddhist traditions as well as continued training in sanskrit, technical alignments, anatomy and physiology. You will gain an understanding of what makes Eyes of the World Vinyasa so special.
Prerequisites

1) Minimum one year of yoga practice. Minimum 6 Level One classes with Tom at Eyes of the World. Please be sure to tell Tom that you are interested in the Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training.

2) Applications due Oct 30, 2006. Send in your application with a $100 nonrefundable deposit. If you are not accepted into the program, your check will be returned.

3) A handwritten statement of intention, with your application.

4) Interview with Tom if you are relatively new to Eyes of the World.

Part One: Vinyasa Yoga Training (100 hours) includes
  • A dynamic, flowing practice with 75 challenging postures
  • In depth study of the techniques and principles of breath, alignment and movement
  • Skills to sucessfully lead a Vinyasa Yoga class in the Eyes of the World style
  • Advanced teaching methods with
    - An emphasis on the study of language and metaphor
    - An emphasis on interpersonal skills, communication and assisting
    - Techniques for being absorbed while holding a posture
  • Anatomy for yoga teachers. At the end of the course, you will know by heart all the major muscles, their actions, fascial lines of pull and all the bones and specific information that yoga teachers need .
  • You will recieve an especially strong training and experience of philosophical ideas underlying the yoga tradition. At the end of 100 hours, you will know by heart
    - Buddha’s Four Noble Truths, Five Precepts and Eight Fold Path
    - Patanjali Eight Limbs of Yoga, the yamas and the niyamas by heart, memorization and recitation of six yoga sutras, patterned from the tradition of Vyaas Houston and the American Sanskrit Institute
    - We will read the Bhagavad Gita, Hatha Yoga Pradiipika, Ashtavakra Sutra, the Dhammapada and other selected texts
  • Correct Sanskrit pronunciation of postures
  • Instruction in pranayama and the bandhas
  • Tom’s emphasis on the soft palate and recent brain research
  • Meditation as the source for your creativity. Meditation as the aquifer for deepening your practice.
